Job description

As software developer in the Extenda Domestic Clients team you will be part of a cross functional team working with business-critical solutions for well-known customer brands.

The role will require working collaboratively with application consultants, test engineers, product owners, project managers and other developers to deliver solutions with high quality to our clients.

You will work in-house and will participate in activities in complex and challenging client projects from inception to delivery as well as maintaining the solutions.

Among a variety of products, you will primarily focus on:

  • The POS product – a rich and platform independent Java client application which enables high checkout speed and key functionalities in an offline mode to ensure business continuity. It offers customer service for both fashion and food retailers with store sizes ranging from small boutiques to hypermarkets.

  • The Central Office – a central back end system connecting all stores and tills together updating the stores with new data such as prices and promotions and receiving and aggregating all sales transactions from each store in near real time.

Other products used by some of our customers:

  • Add-ons – connections with external service integrated with the POS, like card payments, gift card solutions, digital receipts, cash management solutions, invoicing solutions, mobile payments, tax refunds, loyalty solutions and campaign management.
  • Mobilepos – Handheld POS client running on for example and iPhone, allowing the staff in stores to move around and assist the customer with scanning items and complete a full sales transaction including card payments in any location in the store.

  • Self checkout – Allows the customer to independently scan and pay for the items they purchase without having to wait in line for a cashier to be available.

The role is based at Extendas office in Gothenburg and you will report to the Professional Services Manager for the Domestic Clients team who is situated in Stockholm.

Your workday

As a developer at Extenda you have a variety of responsibilities such as:

  • Analyze client requirements together with product owner and application consultants.
  • Estimate development effort and break down epics into stories for implementation.
  • Write solution descriptions and specifications for the solutions to be developed.
  • Configure standard products and develop customized features according to behavior-driven and test-driven development (BDD and TDD) practices.
  • Work with all parts of our solutions; desktop clients, web clients and back-end servers.
  • Cooperate in a cross functional self-organizing team in a scrumban way of working.
  • Participate in improving the code base and our ways of working with things like virtualization, code/project structure, build servers/infrastructure as code, pipelines and continuous integration/delivery, automatic integration tests.
  • Help application consultants/test engineers when installing or testing the solutions.
  • Cooperate with our support team to analyze and fix defects reported by customers.
  • Participate as a subject matter expert in meetings with clients and pre-sale situations.
  • Contribute to achieve a collaborative, open and engaging work environment.

Your experience:

The following experience are meritorious for this position:

Strong software development and engineering background with knowledge of the different aspects of modern software development.

  • Knowledge about agile practices common in Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience from working with Java, XML, Spring, Maven, SCM (Perforce or Git), SOAP/REST web services, multi-threading, security, certificate handling
  • Experience from developing both web solutions, back-end server and desktop clients.
  • Experience from test driven development and Cucumber for Java
  • Good communication skills in both Swedish and English
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently and help colleagues and customers understand any problems and solutions.
  • Relevant academic background

About the Domestic Clients team

The Domestic Clients (DC) team develops and maintains the complete solutions delivered to most of our Swedish clients including Apoteket, Systembolaget, Kappahl, Stadium, Dollarstore, Nilson Shoes, ByggMax, Swedol, Åhléns, Glitter, Indiska and the Swedish Police.

The client solutions consist of a combination of a subset of Extenda standard products and add-ons with a customized configuration and a unique customer layer developed specifically for each client with custom features and integrations with other client systems.

The DC team is responsible for all new projects and change requests for our customers as well as maintaining the solutions previously delivered to the same customers. In doing this we cooperate a lot with our product development department, the support team and sales department to deliver solutions and services to our clients.
